Awardee
At 37, San Juan City
Mayor Joseph Victor G.
Ejercito is named
honoree of the
prestigious The
Outstanding Young Men (TOYM)
of the Philippines for
government and public
service category.
Bringing the
newly-converted city to
its most progressive
state, he boasts of the
“economic miracle” that
his administration
achieved. He increased
the local government’s
revenue to more than
200% in merely four
years as mayor and
recorded a lowest
poverty incidence of
2.92% in 2006 as
reported by the National
Statistics Coordinating
Body. The Commission on
Audit recognized San
Juan as the best
financially-managed
municipality and emerged
as the Most Progressive
Municipality in 2006.
Moreover, his programs
and projects responds to
various needs of his
constituents with his
enhanced health
campaigns, affordable
medicine and
hospitalization
services, improved
education system,
affordable city college
and on-site housing
program to the poorest
of the poor in San Juan,
among many others.
Parents President Joseph
Estrada, also a TOYM
awardee in 1972, and
Guia Gomez, were very
proud of their son’s
achievements saying
Ejercito truly deserves
the award for all his
hardworks and sacrifices
that brought San Juan to
greater heights.
The TOYM is a project of
the Junior Chamber
International
Philippines, the TOYM
Foundation and the Gerry
Roxas Foundation which
seeks to give national
recognition to young
Filipino men and women
between the ages of
18-40 years of age whose
selfless dedication to
their profession or
vocation has resulted in
significant
contributions to the
welfare of their
countrymen as well as to
the advancement of their
fields of endeavor.
