The San
Juan Medical Center evolves from a
simple local government hospital to
a modern and highly equipped
tertiary hospital after its
acquisition of a new set of state of
the art and high technology medical
equipment for the celebration of its
13th Anniversary on July 31, 2008.
“I
think this is just one way of
letting our people feel the fever
that San Juan has truly progressed,
synchronizing with the first
anniversary of the San Juan’s formal
declaration as a full-fledged city.”
Mayor JV Ejercito said.
“Our
constituents deserve the best
services that we can give them, the
new San Juan Medical Center can now
boast of its new medical equipment
which can match the high-end medical
facilities of the leading hospitals
in the country,” he added.
The
anniversary celebration also
coincided with the formal
re-launching of the hospital as the
new San Juan Medical Center “Dr.
Lorenzo M. Hocson Memorial
Hospital”, in special memory of its
former Medical Director, the late
Dr. Lorenzo M. Hocson.
The
former SJMC Director’s sudden demise
early this year, shocked his
colleagues, friends and the whole
San Juan community. Dr. Hocson, who
also stood as the family physician
of the Ejecitos was loved, emulated
and respected by the San Juan
community for his competence,
generosity, and humility.
“It is
just fitting to honor a great man
who has significantly contributed to
our local government’s thrust to
maintain the health and safeguard
the community from illnesses as the
competent medical director of San
Juan Medical Center,” Mayor JV said
during the inauguration of the new
medical equipment under a new
official name of the hospital.
The new set of hospital equipment
includes 3- units adult/pediatric
ventilators with graphics monitor,
2-units adult/pediatric and infant
ventilators with graphics monitor,
1-unit ultrasound,
8-units cardiac
monitor, 1-unit cardiac monitor with
ETCO2, 2-units defibrillator with
monitor, 1-unit antepartum fetal
monitor -single or twin, 1-unit
endoscopy, 3-units pulse oximeter,
1-unit dental chair, an installation
of new elevator motor and cable and
rehabilitation and renovation of the
entire building.
With
these new modern medical apparatus,
the new San Juan Medical Center,
“Dr. Lorenzo M. Hocson Memorial
Hospital” will now be part of the
roster of San Juan’s prides and
trademarks, joining the likes of The
Arena, Museo ng Katipunan and the
Pinaglabanan Shrine, among others.
San
Juan Medical Center’s humble
beginnings…
The San
Juan Medical Center formally started
its operation in July 1995 and has
been treating an average of 50-150
patients daily. This covers all
specializations in the field of
medicine. The medical staff is
composed of diplomats in their
respective fields of specialization.
Originally conceptualized by then
local Chief Executive of San Juan,
Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada who
had visions for the people of San
Juan to have its own medical center
so as not to seek medical treatment
from medical institutions from
nearby towns.
The
municipal government of then mayor
Jinggoy Estrada has shelled out some
70 million for the construction of
the medical center while bank loans
amounting to more than 100 million
were obtained for the acquisition of
medical equipment and apparatus.
President Joseph Ejercito Estrada
has allocated some 30 million of his
Country Wide Development Fund
(CDF). Senators Neptali Gonzales,
Ramon Revilla, Nikki Coseteng,
Santanina Rasul, Raul Roco and
Marcelo Fernan helped in the funding
of the project. Congressman Ronaldo
Zamora of the lone congressional
district of San Juan has contributed
a significant amount thru his CDF
plus two ambulance units in addition
to another ambulance donated by the
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes
Office (PCSO).
The
five-storey hospital has a total
floor area of approximately four
thousand square meters (4,000
sq.m). Originally conceived as a
primary municipal hospital with a
capacity of fifty (50) beds, the
project has since been upgraded and
categorized as a medical center with
an expanded capacity of one hundred
fifty (150) beds. The expansion was
implemented simultaneously with the
structural construction of the
building.
