" The Filol-Fying V Arena"
is a sports and recreational center in the City of San Juan which has become one of the most-sought after venues for major sports tournaments and other entertainment or recreational activities. It is located at Santolan Road, Bgy. Corazon De Jesus and is easily-accessible both through public and private transportation.
This facility, which is also known as, the Entertainment and Recreational Arena for the People or ERAP, was part of the vision of President Joseph Estrada when he was still the mayor, to put the San Juan City Hall, the Pinaglabanan Shrine and a recreational area into one San Juan Government Center. This vision was put into realization through the determination of Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito, when he was still mayor. The Arena was constructed in 2003 to 2005, and was inaugurated in October 2006.
According to The Arena Manager and Administrator, Ms. Marilyn Manansala, “our vision is to become the foremost and most advanced venue in the realm of entertainment, recreation and sports, reflective of the dynamism and vibrance of the City of San Juan ". It is also another way of helping the sports industry by providing an excellent venue at an affordable price.
The ARENA is, of late, mainly being used for sports activities, such as basketball and volleyball tournaments and competitions, but can also be maximized as a concert venue and gathering hall for religious, private and corporate events. It has a seating capacity of 4,000 and rooms which can accommodate the media people, referees, and VIP’s. It also has its own parking building big enough to accommodate 200 cars. Their mission is also to provide the highest and most professional level of services by having most up-to-date facilities and most hi-technology equipments like Nevco Electronic Scoreboard, Porter Ring Goaland Tasso Sound System.
The ARENA has been recognized by Coach Ryan Gregorio as the best practice facility and inscribed by Beth Celis of the Inquirer as clean and well maintained. The ARENA has been a constant choice of ABS-CBN sports for their local shows like Mano Mano, NCAA/UAAP ALL STAR and TV 5 MY MVP.
Ms. Manansala says, "The ARENA is well maintained and it is a first class gymnasium with finest amenities and a world class structure; it is wifi ready, with 4 standard dug-outs, equipped with hot and cold shower.” She adds, "everyday is a learning process and I cannot say that we are perfect already, but we are trying to make our services and our policy to be perfect. We try to learn from the events that we have every now and then, because we are a pro-people organization and driven by our values of customer satisfaction, taking care of our people and uplifting the human spirit by way of entertainment, recreation and sports.” Indeed the ARENA has become a yardstick of respectable amusement and leisure center not only for sports but for other social gatherings and a favorite amongst indoor venues in the Philippines.
To quote Mayor Guia Gomez in her first State of the City Address last July 11, 2011, " We are also continuously developing The Arena complex which now earns a monthly average of 1.2 Million Pesos. With the Arena, we enjoy free TV promotion of our city, having major tournaments such as PBA, UAAP, NCAA, Fil-oil, among others ". And with the constant patronage and trust of the valued clients of the ARENA and the support of the City of San Juan, it shall increase its income every year and shall provide jobs for the people of San Juan, thus helping and uplifting the livelihood of the people.
